The way we connect, communicate, and collaborate continues to evolve, with hybrid working now firmly established across the public and private sectors, and SaaS adoption increasing, as our understanding of these new workflows improves. At the time of writing, it is anticipated that 90% of organisations will rely primarily on SaaS platforms by 2030 - a completely new model of enterprise infrastructure that will free employees of their traditional ties to specific locations and devices.
However, as with any period of intensive digital transformation, potential security vulnerabilities must be given careful consideration. Indeed, 66% of organisations already cite the security of SaaS platforms as their biggest challenge – concerns compounded by a number of recent high-profile incidents where bad actors have utilised security vulnerabilities in SaaS platforms (some caused by misconfiguration, others by simple human error) to gain access to corporations' critical data.
Traditional security ecosystems are typically based on building security around the network and were never designed to accommodate secure remote access at scale. As a result, with many organisations forced to rapidly pivot to hybrid working throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns, security has often become fragmented across multiple users, devices, and locations. Not only does this represent a significant increase in operational overheads, maintaining numerous heavily siloed platforms make the consistent application of corporate security policies and visibility of user devices extremely complex and time-consuming to maintain. As a result, it is far too easy for security vulnerabilities to go undetected until a breach occurs, particularly when we consider the risk of 'shadow IT', where employees are using Cloud and SaaS platforms that have not been validated by corporate security teams as part of their day-to-day work.
While it may be possible to implement security solutions on a case-by-case basis, i.e. the use of VPNs, this will not, ultimately, be sustainable. Not only will it exacerbate the concerns highlighted above, it will also introduce additional latency and complexity that is unacceptable at a time when employees expect critical platforms to always be available and always offer the highest standards of performance.
Taking all these concerns into account, it is clear that we need to rethink the way we design, implement, and manage network security, ensuring policies are applied consistently and correctly for all users and all devices, wherever they are connecting from. Rather than deploying multiple security solutions across a pre-existing network infrastructure, a unified model of network security is required - one that can accommodate the diverse nature of SaaS platforms and the dynamic nature of modern workflows.
FortiSASE offers a single, fully centralised answer to these concerns. A Cloud-based Security Service Edge (SSE) solution, built on Fortinet's best-in-class security platform and delivered as a fully managed service by Exponential-e, FortiSASE intelligently automates that application of corporate security policies across users, devices, and locations, without the complexity of traditional network controls. This way, full control and visibility of all network traffic can be maintained, without compromising the performance and availability of approved SaaS applications.
If you are in any way frustrated by the performance of your critical applications or concerned about the security of your network, get in touch, and our specialists will work closely with you to phase out your legacy systems in favour of next-gen solutions that fully support your specific workflows.
Appointment to GCA RM6393 Tactical Communications Systems Framework Strengthens Exponential-e's Position in Secure, Sovereign and Mission Critical Defence Communication
Exponential-e Ltd has been awarded places on Lots 2 and 3 of the Government Commercial Agency (GCA) RM6393 Tactical Communication Systems Framework, providing Defence and Public Sector organisations with direct access to the company's secure communications, networking, infrastructure and managed service capabilities.
The framework enables Defence organisations to procure a broad range of tactical communication systems, technologies and services that support secure, resilient and interoperable operations across fixed, mobile and deployed environments.
Through its appointment, Exponential-e will provide Defence customers with access to both complete Information and Communication System (ICS) solutions and modular tactical communication components, supporting operational requirements from headquarters and command environments through to the tactical edge.
Under Lot 2, Exponential-e can deliver complete communication and command infrastructure, including secure and resilient multi bearer networks, deployable communications systems, command and control capabilities, platform and headquarters infrastructure, security solutions and managed service delivery models.
Under Lot 3, we can provide a broad range of tactical communication components and subsystems, including security infrastructure, platform services, voice and data distribution, system and service management capabilities, application services and enabling technologies.
The award further strengthens Exponential-e's growing Defence portfolio and reflects continued investment in sovereign infrastructure, secure networking, cyber resilience, edge computing, unified communications and mission critical managed services.
Modern Defence operates in an environment where threats evolve in days, not years, and technology can no longer move at the pace of traditional procurement cycles.
There will always be a place for major programmes and large-scale defence platforms. They provide the mass, reach and capability that modern armed forces depend upon. But a frigate is not designed to operate like a fast attack craft. One delivers presence and scale, the other delivers agility and rapid response. Defence needs both.
The same principle applies to technology delivery. As a specialist partner, Exponential-e brings the ability to adapt quickly, integrate emerging technologies rapidly and respond to evolving operational requirements without the inertia that can naturally come with larger organisations.
Our appointment to RM6393 reflects the growing demand for partners who can combine secure communications, digital infrastructure, cyber resilience and operational expertise to deliver capability at operational tempo. We are proud to support Defence organisations as they modernise for an increasingly dynamic and contested world.
Jonathan Bridges - CIO at Exponential-e
Having spent many years working alongside Defence customers, one thing has become increasingly clear: the challenge is rarely a lack of technology. The challenge is getting the right technology into the hands of the people who need it, when they need it.
What excites me about this framework is the opportunity to help customers move faster. Whether that's deploying resilient communications into challenging environments, integrating new capabilities into existing estates, or helping programmes accelerate delivery, our focus is always on making complex problems simpler.
The operational environment isn't standing still and neither can we. Through RM6393, we're looking forward to working with Defence organisations to deliver secure, resilient and adaptable communications capabilities that evolve as quickly as the missions they support.
The framework appointment builds upon Exponential-e's established presence across Defence, National Security, Critical National Infrastructure, Central/Local Government, Health and Higher Education sectors, where the company supports organisations with secure networking, cloud, cyber security, unified communications, operational technology, edge infrastructure and managed digital services.
As Defence continues to modernise its communications and digital capabilities, Exponential-e remains focused on helping customers deliver secure, sovereign and interoperable solutions that can adapt rapidly to changing operational requirements whilst maintaining the highest standards of resilience, security and assurance.
