What is SD-WAN?

Based on the principles of Software defined networking (SDN), SD-WAN allows Network administrators to programmatically initialise, control, change, and manage Network behaviour dynamically. It’s essentially decoupling the infrastructure from the service using software-definition and network functions virtualisation (NFV).

However you wish to connect your services, SD-WAN provides the flexibility to utilise multiple access technologies, which enables the agility and resilience required in today’s ever-changing world.

Overcome your connectivity challenges with SD-WAN

A number of different factors are contributing to the demand for SD-WAN technology:

01
Network complexity: Diverse WAN connectivity is causing complex legacy environments delivered via a multiple providers, which is having a detrimental impact on performance and cost.
02
Lack of scalability and reliability: Increased bandwidth usage due to new sites and a growing number of internet-based applications is causing operational complexity.
03
Data protection and privacy: Organisational data traffic is steadily migrating from the enterprise branch to the internet. You need the reassurance that data and Network access are fully secure.
04
Cost efficiencies and service delivery: Organisations are seeking cost efficiencies and they prioritise evolving service delivery requirements, especially as they adopt SaaS, IaaS, and other cloud services.
05
Security concerns and compliance requirements: Mobile users, distributed sites, and cloud applications require trusted access, consistent security policies and simplified configuration.

The Benefits of SD-WAN

01

Agility - Software-defined policies that control network traffic for enhanced prioritisation and routing optimisation of applications and networks, which provides agility in the choice of deployment and network bandwidth capacity options.

02

Operational cost savings - Efficiently optimise network resources with simplified management through a single pane of glass, helping to reduce budgets and time that can be applied to other factors of the business.

03

Built-in security - A zero-trust approach to network security and access management, to ensure secure and encrypted access to data at all times.

04

Simplified automation and control - The ability to manage policies and infrastructure across the business to allow for simple automation and administration through a centralised platform, reducing time for policy implementation.

05

Visibility, advanced analytics, and reporting - Real-time analytics to generate reports for policies set in the network to give greater visibility into the application performance, to easily diagnose issues and make strategic changes based on usage.

06

Enhanced application performance - Application-aware routing always ensures the fastest path for data to travel, guaranteeing optimised performance.

07

Hybrid WAN - Allowing the management of traffic flows, to ensure that data goes through the optimal connections at all times, providing peace of mind that business critical applications are running optimally.

When you have a strong tender, but no guarantee the team you're meeting is the team you'll be working with, there's always a concern whether things will work as planned on launch day. But this was never an issue with Exponential-e. All the way through, I had complete confidence in the team we'd be working with.

FAQ

Based on the principles of Software Defined Networking (SDN), SD-WAN allows network administrators to programmatically initialise, control and dynamically manage network behaviour.

This is achieved by decoupling the infrastructure from the service using software definition and Network Function Virtualisation (NFV), creating a highly scalable service that’s truly transport agnostic.

Our SD-WAN platform leverages functionality that you could link to a VPN in order to provide a secure overlay network. It does not directly replace any remote access VPN service. However, we can offer RAS solutions alongside our SD-WAN platform.
