Claremont High School Academy

Claremont-High-School-Academy-improves-learning-and-saves-on-infrastructure-costs

Claremont High School Academy improves learning and saves on infrastructure costs. Faster access for staff and students to online resources.

About Claremont High School Academy

Claremont High School Academy is a multi-specialist school which specialises in Performing Arts, Maths & Computing and Applied Learning. Based in Harrow, Greater London, the school has over 1,500 students and offers a breadth of learning opportunities. Rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted, it strives to ensure that students follow a personalised curriculum in a safe and secure, yet educationally challenging environment.

Solution

After an in-depth solution assessment which was presented to the school's board, Exponential-e was selected to provide Claremont High School Academy with a scalable high-speed Internet service. Selection criteria included: company reputation and delivery framework, education sector experience, technology solution, cost-effectiveness and service levels.

Daniel Kirby commented: "The quality of the service has been excellent. The Connectivity is reliable and robust and we always get good response rates on the ping. The support and ongoing communications has been better than any other company that we deal with."

Exponential-e worked closely with Claremont High School Academy to ensure the new Internet service was delivered timely to coincide with the school holidays. The school's new service is delivered over an uncontended 100Mbps fibre-optic Connection with the same high-speed uploads as downloads - ensuring staff and students can quickly access and upload coursework from home. In addition, with Exponential-e's own Network integrated with the world's major content delivery Networks, such as BBC and YouTube, educational video content is only one hop away and can easily be streamed in classes without delays.

After successfully deploying the new Internet connection, Exponential-e was also approached to deliver a secure, automated Online Backup Service for the school's mission critical servers. The backup data is carried over the Internet connection via private peering to secure storage in Tier 3 UK-based Data Centres.

"Exponential-e went above and beyond all the other companies. They weren't just trying to make a sale; they're very passionate about what they do. When they invited us to come and see their Network Operations Centre and meet its employees, as well as offered to put us in contact with other schools using Exponential-e services, we knew it was the right company for us. We always receive regular phone calls from them asking how we're getting on. We just don't get that level of attention from any of our other suppliers."

Solution benefits

  • Claremont High School Academy now has a high-speed, reliable, low latency Internet service with vastly improved upload and download speeds. The new Internet Connection facilitates a better learning environment for both students and staff.
  • With the ability to split its Internet Connection and deliver multiple services over the same pipe, Claremont High School Academy is also making the most out of its infrastructure investment.
  • The new secure online backup facility makes data backups faster and simpler.

 Challenges

With a growing student population and a newly installed virtual learning platform, Claremont High School Academy's bandwidth was no longer sufficient for the school's needs. The school regularly peaked in its data usage with even basic server administration tasks such as offsite backups taking a considerable time to complete. Since the school's new virtual learning platform was hosted on site, uploading and downloading coursework remotely over the Internet was a slow process. This made it inconvenient for staff and students to access the platform from home and hampered the schools ability to provide an outstanding learning experience.

Daniel Kirby, Network Manager at Claremont High School Academy commented: "We'd hit our limit in terms of bandwidth and it was really affecting our staff and students since accessing coursework could be incredibly slow. We needed to increase our bandwidth substantially and we also needed a more scalable and reliable solution."

The school was also promoting the use of educational video content from YouTube and BBC iPlayer within their classes.

However, with existing bandwidth not being sufficient, streaming video content over the Internet posed real challenges and often wasted valuable teaching time.

As a result, the school recognised the need for a change and approached a number of providers to find a more suitable Internet service capable of supporting the new technologies which are required to deliver a 21st century educational experience. Any new solution would need to be robust, reliable, scalable and cost-effective.

Features

  • Increased bandwidth capacity and performance.
  • Savings on infrastructure costs by delivering multiple services over the same connection.
  • Improved virtual learning experience with symmetrical upload and download speeds.

It's time for the public sector to have its own digital revolution

Technological innovation is transforming the way public sector organisations across the UK engage with citizens and deliver critical services whenever and wherever they are needed. In this exclusive report, we consider the impact of these developments, and explore how organisations can accelerate their own digital journeys, ensuring exceptional citizen outcomes are the norm.

Channel 4

Channel-4-deploys-resilient-quality-Network-allowing-content-for-multiple-platforms-to-be-pushed-quickly-and-efficiently

Channel 4, deploys resilient quality Network allowing content for multiple platforms to be pushed quickly and efficiently, resulting in operational cost-savings and resource efficiencies.

About Channel 4

Enabling multi-platform content delivery for Channel 4's on-demand platform.

Channel 4 was the first UK broadcaster to launch an on-demand platform in 2006, 4oDTV, which quickly proved to be the most popular commercial TV service on the Internet. Since then, 4oD has continued to grow considerably each year, with 28 million monthly video views and 7.6 million unique users per month able to choose when, where and what content they watch.

Solution

Exponential-e was selected for its Network which offers low latency, low-jitter and no packet loss. The Network was already proven in broadcasting environments with Exponential-e serving other major broadcasters.

As Exponential-e was already supplying a 1Gig fibre circuit to Channel 4, connecting various offices in London, it was a trusted partner. Andrew Bell, Technical Project Manager, Broadcast and Engineering, explained the reasons for selecting Exponential-e:

"We chose Exponential-e, as they have been a partner since May 2006 and their service has been excellent. The technology delivers and their teams ensure we enjoy a good working relationship with more than satisfactory service levels. They already had a quality broadcast network in place, so it seemed a natural choice for the latest deployment"

Exponential-e worked closely with Channel 4 to upgrade the existing Network to a 1Gbps capacity, which is capable of supporting bandwidth hungry content such as encoded video files, metadata, ancillary assets, subtitling data and images on a daily basis. The Network is highly resilient and scalable, backed by 99.99% Service Level Agreements to ensure next to no packet loss occurs; it enables real-time data delivery that is crucial in broadcast environments.

This allows for fast and efficient delivery of media rich content to a newly outsourced production facility at RedBee Media, where the preparation of non-linear content takes place, playout and transmission. Content is then distributed via Exponential-e's multiple point-to-point e-pipes to various partners and content providers, including IOKO, Home Choice, Virgin Media, BT Vision, Inqb8r and On Demand.

The upgrade enabled Channel 4 to eliminate the time-intensive use of tapes and hard drives, where content needed to be transferred to hard drives then shipped to various UK locations by couriers and post. It also no longer needs to host large FTP sites for content distribution.

Rather than relying on an antiquated manual process, we now have a Network in place that supports an automated workflow, dramatically speeding up our processes. We can now deliver a large number of content directly onto the platforms much faster, significantly freeing up internal resources and making operational cost savings" explains Andrew Bell.

Channel 4 is also looking to deploy a fail-safe backup Network in the event of a disaster situation, leveraging Exponential-e's 1GigE Connection and circuit resilience to ensure no disruptions or downtime occurs.

  1. Channel 4 now has a resilient quality Network in place that can push content to multiple platforms quickly and efficiently, providing operational cost-savings and resource efficiencies. This also enables Channel 4 to meet time-to-market deadlines for service launches and deploy services in a quicker fashion.
  2. Since the launch, 4oD has forged new paths into content delivery and is now available on multiple platforms, including YouTube, Seesaw, iPads, iPhones, PlayStations and on TV video on demand services.

 Challenges

Since its launch, 4oD has continued to grow considerably each year, placing an ever increasing demand on its existing distribution Network. This demand reached a peak when Channel 4 prepared to re-launch its 4oD service to provide viewers with access to all its archives. To prepare for the launch, Channel 4 needed to source a quality broadcast Network provider, capable of distributing all of its non-linear programming on a daily basis. The Network also needed to support a newly automated workflow, where a large number of content would be directly pushed onto various platforms. As a result, Channel 4 began to evaluate possible suppliers.

Solution benefits

  • High-speed 1Gbps Network.
  • 99.99% Service Level Agreements.
  • Fail-over backup Network.
  • Broadcast quality, low jitter and no packet loss Network.

We chose Exponential-e, as they have been a partner since May 2006 and the service has been excellent. The technology delivers and their teams ensure we enjoy a good working relationship with more than satisfactory service levels. They already had a quality broadcast Network in place, so it seemed a natural choice for the latest deployment.

Carers Trust

Carers-Trust-Enabling-Carers-Trust-to-support-their-vision-of-IT-virtualisation-n

Enabling Carers Trust to support their vision of IT virtualisation - A Fibre based WAN across the Carers Trust's five sites with VPLS core linking all of the sites together.

About Carers Trust

Carers Trust is the largest charity working to support carers. They work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of being an unpaid carer. They do this with their unique network of 116 independent carer's centres, 55 Crossroads Care schemes and 99 young carer's services.

This network of support is united by a shared vision to ensure that quality information, advice and support is available to all carers across the UK.

Solution

With an increase in the number of remote workers, the Cloud solution recommended and implemented at Carers Trust needed to facilitate a number of business requirements. Alongside ensuring that remote workers could easily access the data and information on-demand, Carer's Trust were looking to virtualise their IT infrastructure to create even greater efficiencies.

A Fibre based WAN across the Carers Trust's five sites was implemented, inclusive of a VPLS core which linked all of the sites together. This Network included a 25Mb breakout to the Internet and a Managed Firewall, ensuring that the Network was secure and protected.

Across the Exponential-e secure and private Network they introduced a VoIP hosted service, which enabled the organisation to centralise their communications across all sites, meaning that calls could be transferred regardless of geographical location.

With a migration of IT services to Office 365 and the addition of Virtual Data Centre (VDC) services, Carers Trust was left with the bare minimum to manage and support on premise. This enabled their internal IT teams to focus on more strategic IT activities that will benefit the organisation and its future growth.

The introduction of Cloud based and virtualised services has enabled Carers Trust to be agile in the deployment of modifications to their Network and infrastructure, as well as flexible in terms of future growth.

  1. With Exponential-e providing a managed service with regards to their data centres and firewall, Carers Trust was able to focus their limited IT support on the delivery of services internally. The organisation is also secure in the knowledge that their Network will be proactively monitored and can easily be managed, minimising the risk of a need to implement a disaster recovery plan in the event of a failover.
  2. One of the major drivers for Carers Trust's IT project was to unite their multiple sites, particularly after the merger in 2012. This particular issue was resolved through the implementation of a 5-site WAN and hosted VoIP solution, ensuring that all employees, regardless of location, could easily communicate with each other and quickly share data and be governed by one central IT policy and an end-to-end SLA.
  3. By taking Cloud based services from Exponential-e, Carers Trust has ensured that their IT infrastructure is protected, easier to manage and that there is unity across the organisation. They are enjoying the benefit of having one single supplier that has created resource, time and cost efficiencies.

After consultation with several suppliers, Exponential-e were streets ahead of competitors, understood our challenges, offer the latest technologies to support all aspects of our infrastructure under one roof, whilst still being cost effective and competitive to meet our restricted budget.

Tim Cornish Head of ICT, Carers Trust

 Challenges

A merger in 2012 was the primary reason for Carers Trust to look to transform their IT service provision, including the implementation of the latest Cloud based technologies and solutions.

Ensuring unity across the organisation and its employees, whilst ensuring that their infrastructure was current and fit for purpose, was vital to the success of the merger. A priority was also to ensure that employees were able to productively collaborate with each other, across the organisation, as easily as possible.

An additional requirement was the need to incorporate two more sites to the Carers Trust Network - primarily as a number of their support functions, including Finance and Commercial, were relocating to these offices to reduce operating costs.

However, with a limited IT team available internally there was a significant amount of work that needed to be done by an external service provider to ensure that the organisations core infrastructure, framework and services were modernised and managed suitably.

With a number of existing suppliers providing a variety of different Network and Telecommunications services, the organisation wanted to streamline and rationalise services by selecting one service provider that could provide all their IT infrastructure requirements. This is where Exponential-e came in.

With the ability to provide the Network, Cloud and Unified Communications services that Carers Trust needed to ensure their organisation could successfully function after the merger, Exponential-e were selected as the chosen service provider.

Solution benefits

  • Internal IT resource can now be channelled into delivering IT Services thanks to virtualisation.
  • Managed firewall ensures that their Network is kept secure and private.
  • IT infrastructure is supported and protected by the Exponential-e 24 x 7 / 365 service desk.
  • Utilisation of VDC services so that data and services are protected against onsite disaster.
  • Introduction of a WAN ensured that sites could seamlessly and efficiently connect and communicate.

Anthony Nolan

Anthony-Nolan-Robust-and-secure-Private-Cloud-infrastructure-across-3-London-sites

Robust and secure Private Cloud infrastructure across 3 London sites.

Implementing a private Cloud and VPLS solution enables a future-proofed, scalable infrastructure. This ensures Anthony Nolan's data is accessible and available at all times so that people with blood cancer have the best chance of finding a match.

About Anthony Nolan

Anthony Nolan, now in its 40th anniversary year, was the world's first bone marrow register. The blood cancer charity has been saving lives for four decades by matching remarkable people willing to donate their bone marrow to patients in desperate need of a transplant.

Anthony Nolan operates an extensive global database of over 500,000 bone marrow, or stem cell, donors. This database enables the charity to provide over 1,000 blood cancer patients with a matching stem cell donor every year.

Solution

Anthony Nolan decided to migrate its existing infrastructure, previously housed in its headquarters in London, to two data centre sites operated by Exponential-e in London. Key to the solution is improving business continuity through migrating the servers to these sites and therefore into dedicated off-site facilities.

Anthony Nolan chose to adopt Exponential-e's VPLS into the solution, Exponential-e's Tier 3 facilities have enterprise-class connectivity provided over a Network built and integrated for 100% uptime.

By connecting over Exponential-e's virtual private LAN, Anthony Nolan is also able to extend its own Network to capture all of its offices on one private WAN. The Network also provides dual resilience enabling further contingency and security.

Our database is accessed 24 hours a day and is essential in ensuring people with blood cancer have the best chance of finding a match. We need to ensure our data is safe, accessible and available at all times, now and in the future. As we continue growing year on year this demand is only increasing and we need to ensure we have the ability to expand our capacity in the future.

Marcin Fabjanczyk Infrastructure Manager, Anthony Nolan

 Challenges

With over 60,000 new donors registering per year, the rapid growth of the organisation and the volume of data it processes, means it is essential for Anthony Nolan to safeguard the management of its data to ensure business continuity. Registries across the world access the database 24 hours a day looking for a potential donor match for people with blood cancer.

If the database is not available or accessible, registries are not able to access it and this critical activity cannot take place.

Whilst the database must be constantly available, it also needs to be scalable. Anthony Nolan has a number of agreements with other donor databases, which are set to be incorporated into the same infrastructure - the set-up must be resilient enough to support this growth in data and the associated search requests.

In addition to this growth, the charity has targets to increase the rate of growth of registered donors, and is currently on track to achieve its target of 60,000 new donors every year. Its infrastructure must support this planned growth long-term.

Solution benefits

  • Implemented private Cloud and VPLS solution.
  • Future-proofed and scalable infrastructure.
  • Business continuity through both Cloud and Network infrastructure.
  • Data is always secure and private, across its own WAN and Exponential-e Tier 3 facilities.

Allport

Allport-Cargo-Services-Global-freight-supply-chain-updates-to-resilient-and-secure-layer-2-VPLS-WAN

Global freight, supply chain updates to resilient and secure layer 2 VPLS WAN Network for increase resilience and responsiveness, enabling the business to increase efficiency and drive productivity.

About Allport Cargo Services

Founded in 1963 Allport Cargo Services operate in 30 countries, with representation in another 100.

Their Network extends to 450 offices, with more than 21,000 colleagues and a worldwide turnover exceeding £600 million.

Headquartered in Cowley, Middlesex, their 800 UK based colleagues operate out of 20 hi-tech logistics hubs, freight centres and packaging factories: picking, packing and transporting cargo globally every day for customers across a range of sectors.

Solution

To increase the flexibility and scalability of its Network, Exponential-e worked with channel partner Ideal Networks to migrate Allport's existing Network to its VPLS Network. This solution emulates a Layer 2 VLAN allowing the nine geographically diverse sites to connect as if they were on the same LAN.

The flatter Network structure is easier for Allport to manage, and the solution has built-in resilience by incorporating dual, carrier agnostic routers at each site. As a result, Allport is able to ensure optimum Network performance at all times.

As well as receiving 24 / 7 support and technical maintenance from Ideal Networks and Exponential-e, Allport has also been able to increase the visibility of its Network via a tailored web portal, allowing them to better plan Network resources according to business demands.

As well as a reliable and secure infrastructure, we required proactive support in ensuring our Network provided the business benefits we were seeking. Our day to day business requires a Network that will scale with the business and effectively support our business processes.

Paul Duke IT Manager, Allport Cargo Services.

 Challenges

Allport Cargo Services, a global freight, supply chain and added value logistics company, was looking to update its existing WAN infrastructure to increase resilience and responsiveness across its Network.

Allport wished to transition to a responsive service provider who could proactively support the migration and management of an upgraded Network. This move would help Allport improve the development of its critical business systems ultimately enabling the business to increase efficiency and drive productivity.

Allport was looking for a flexible and scalable WAN infrastructure to connect multiple sites across the UK. Key to Allport's business proposition is the availability and speed of data transfer across its Network. The Network underpins every process within the business and therefore the provision of a resilient and scalable Network is essential in day-to-day operations.

Allport sought a service provider that could offer not only a more scalable Network but also a management, analysis and monitoring platform. These value added services would allow Allport's IT managers to focus on internal processes and demands.

Solution benefits

  • Allport has ensured its business continuity by migrating to a Network that will be able to accommodate future business expansion. By increasing its available bandwidth, Allport has seen immediate improvement and has been able to begin work upgrading its critical business processes, a task which had previously been on hold due to the previous limited bandwidth. These upgrades allow staff to respond to customers more quickly and ultimately have improved customer satisfaction.
  • Through working with Ideal Networks and Exponential-e, Allport has benefited from a responsive team of engineers who can offer true 24 / 7 technical support and management across all its sites. Exponential-e is able to provide proactive monitoring and analysis of Network activity to enable Allport to respond more quickly to Network issues.

Abercorn School

Abercorn-School-Resilient-WAN-fast-Connectivity

Resilient WAN with fast connectivity, hosted voice and VPN access; providing faster communication and collaboration between sites.

About Abercorn School

Established in 1987, Abercorn School aims to offer its pupils the best start in education by providing a friendly and inspiring academic atmosphere where a true love of learning is nurtured.

The school has gained an enviable record of excellence and achievement for boys and girls from 2½ to 13 years of age. They guide both pupils and parents through the education process to ensure their pupils attain the highest standards and meet their potential.

Abercorn are firm believers in traditional values and standards. However, they are committed to embracing the best of what the 21st century will offer to aid in preparing pupils to face the challenges of the modern world with confidence and competence.

Solution

Implementing connectivity into the new premises for Abercorn School was a priority, and a September 2015 deadline had Exponential-e working fast. From beginning to end, implementation and testing of a super-fast, low latency Internet line was installed in to the new building in just 6 weeks. This allowed the school to ensure they were up and running in time for the arrival of pupils for the new school year.

A key requirement was for the Internet to be robust and reliable, ensuring that lessons were productive for pupils and that staff were able to access resources as and when they needed to.

The next solution that Exponential-e worked to implement was a refreshed telephony system that would allow Abercorn to reduce costs and increase call quality. A Hosted Voice solution offered Abercorn "fantastic call quality" and was "very easy to use" - that alongside the cost savings it delivered meant that Abercorn implemented this solution in to their second site too.

With communication between the two sites ever increasing, it made sense for Abercorn to look in to a Smart WAN, which provides connectivity between the two sites as if they were using a single LAN. This enables faster communication and file transfer between sites, as well as allowing staff to better communicate with each other.

With space at a premium within the schools, VDCs looked like an ideal method for the school to store data and infrastructure without having to find the space for physical servers within their building. With this sitting within the Cloud, managed by Exponential-e, Abercorn could also be reassured that their servers were being proactively monitored by our 24 / 7 x 365 service desk to ensure resilient uptime.

Another benefit of the VDC solution was the fact that the school could better manage its IT budget, with the requirement to only pay for what they required - and with scalability being incredibly easy they could increase or decrease server space when necessary.

Built on trust the relationship between Exponential-e and Abercorn School has grown and grown and they continue to look to other solutions which weren't part of their initial request for services. Exponential-e was able to reassure Abercorn that the service would work by allowing them to test Internet and telephony services prior to the services officially going live. This provided the school with the confidence they needed to embark upon the relationship and implement its services.

 Challenges

When Abercorn originally approached Exponential-e their school in new premises was not yet open and they had poor connectivity within their existing building. This was therefore a priority for Abercorn, and Exponential-e were selected to provide the service.

Abercorn also had a second site which they needed to communicate with frequently. They were keen to implement increased connectivity between these sites. At the time they were using an existing phone line and spending around £500 a month on calling their other sites. This was a challenge that was resolved by a Hosted Voice solution, which Exponential-e further provided to Abercorn to enable increase communication and collaboration - whilst enabling cost savings.

Solution benefits

  • Internet Connectivity - enabled school to open on time and provide both pupils and staff with a reliable, fast Internet connection.
  • Hosted voice solution - means that the school are saving around £500 a month on calls between sites, with the quality of the calls also being greatly improved.
  • Wide Area Network (WAN) - between sites enables more resilient connectivity, as well as allowing users faster communication with those at other locations.
  • VPN Access - allowing staff to work remotely enabled access to documents and data.

Havas

Havas-highly-sophisticated-16-site-Wide-Area-Network

Major media player, Havas, brought in Exponential-e to design and build a highly sophisticated 16 site Wide Area Network.

About Havas

Havas was formed in 1968 and has become the leading group in communications consulting. It provides solutions for advertising, marketing and interactive communications. Havas has a presence in over 100 countries with 14,000 employees and a UK Network consisting of 16 sites.

Solution

Exponential-e worked closely with Havas to design a solution that would remove the complexity and duplication from the existing infrastructure and consolidate all 16 sites into a central Network, while ensuring each business unit remained secure from each other. Exponential-e engineers were able to overcome this challenge with a relatively simple Network design.

Single access points - To accommodate Havas' requirements, we deployed a multi-site Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) WAN solution using single, converged connections from each of the Havas offices. Each Havas business unit is now supported by our resilient Next Generation Network.

VPLS communities - To consolidate Havas' disparate WANs we needed to discover which agencies needed to be able to talk to each other. Once we had this information, we were able to group agencies into different VPLS pools to create mini-WANs. The fact that we were able to maintain LAN and WAN separacy means the solution is operationally simplistic and it gives Havas maximum control.

Centrally hosted hardware and services - We co-located the firewalls across two separate data centres using VLANs into the firewall. This means Havas can now benefit from centrally hosted firewalls which it has complete control over. Havas are able to change security policies and routing itself from one central point. The company also has centrally hosted Internet connectivity removing considerable complexity, duplication and cost from its wide area Networking.

Resiliency - Our pioneering NGN design in this instance was based on providing resilient and automated failover to secondary circuits at each site, whereby the local router will switch traffic automatically into the secondary circuit in the event of a failure on the primary circuit. In addition, we provided resilient connections to the centralised firewall to achieve automatic failover on the Internet service.

Convergence and separation - We created one unified Network but managed to maintain 100% security and separation for its individual business units. Most importantly Havas is in control and unnecessary cost and duplication have been eliminated.

The IP VPN solutions which we first considered required us to use highly-complex access-control lists. With the solution designed by Exponential-e, you don't have this headache as it's all done via secure Layer 2 broadcast domains.

Tony Farrington Havas.

There were a number of issues Havas had with its old Network. Firstly, the IP VPN solutions it was using required highly complex access-control lists on each site's CPE router to keep different business unit traffic secure from each other. This was proving very inflexible, time consuming and an administrative headache.

Havas' Network had also grown to include multiple Internet services which were operated by many of the individual business units. As a result of this, the company was having to manage multiple firewalls and Internet service suppliers which was proving to be an area of concern.

The business wanted to consolidate its Network of disparate Wide Area Networks (WANs) into one unified platform, whilst maintaining security between business unit communities. At the same time it wanted to centralise its Internet provision and security services so the company could eliminate a complex array of providers, bandwidths and underlying technologies.

Solution benefits

  • Havas now benefits from centrally hosted firewalls and Internet connectivity removing considerable complexity, duplication and cost from its Wide Area Networking. Furthermore the company is able to change security policies itself from one central point. The pioneering NGN design is based on providing resilient and automated failover to secondary circuits at each site, whereby, the local router and the centralised firewalls automatically take over in the event of any failure on the primary circuit.
  • The result is a highly sophisticated sixteen site Wide Area Network. that meets Havas' key requirement for supporting its different UK businesses from a common infrastructure whilst maintaining a high level of control and security between each business unit.

InterQuest Group

Interquest-Group-increasing-speed-and-improving-scalability-whilst-reducing-their-infrastructure-costs

InterQuest Group experienced network and latency issues across all their sites. They called upon Exponential-e to increasing speed and improving scalability whilst reducing their infrastructure costs.

About InterQuest Group

InterQuest Group (InterQuest) is a market-leading IT and Analytics recruitment firm, which comprises a number of specialised recruitment units that operate specifically in one market segment, be it in the public sector, banking and finance, or in an area of technology such as testing, analytics or CRM. The Group operates from its head office in London and several branch offices. Specialising in contract and permanent IT recruitment, the Group trades as several distinctly branded, operating divisions.

Solution

A number of established and well-known suppliers within the market were considered for project delivery. InterQuest selected Exponential-e based on its technical expertise, receptive approach and value.

Exponential-e worked closely with InterQuest to deploy an eight site Wide Area Network (WAN) which extended between Yorkshire and Kent, as well as centralised Internet, security and backup solutions. Exponential-e began work with a redesign of InterQuest's existing infrastructure. The first phase of the network roll-out started with the various locations being brought on-net to Exponential-e's switched core Next Generation Network (NGN) for improved resilience.

The following phase saw Exponential-e provisioning virtual circuits over the access circuits required, allowing Exponential-e to establish full connectivity between all InterQuest office locations. By centralising the Internet connection in Exponential-e's facility, the Group's branch offices are no longer reliant on the head office for Internet connectivity, allowing for a more agile and flexible set-up.

In addition, Exponential-e configured a dedicated VPLS instance for InterQuest, providing a completely secure WAN. Exponential-e provided a Private DSL connection from the site through a new Virtual LNS instance into the existing InterQuest VPLS WAN. The new solution allows InterQuest to route voice over its internal network and save costs.

Solution benefits

  • An eight site WAN service across all InterQuest sites extending between Yorkshire and Kent.
  • Centralised Internet, security and Backup.
  • Branch offices are no longer reliant on head office for Internet connectivity.
  • The ability to converge multiple services over one connection and further reduce costs.
  • Flexibility to add new sites with ease.

 Challenges

InterQuest was experiencing several issues with its existing network service. It had previously moved to a DSL based MPLS network, but still faced issues with inconsistent speeds. The service was proving to be unreliable and the company repeatedly faced prolonged downtime affecting business operations for days at a time.

Due to continued business success, InterQuest had grown to become a multi-site operation over the years; each specialist recruitment division operated as an individual business unit whilst some services within these were centralised. Many sites however, had started to experience performance issues and latency, and as a result they were becoming increasingly dependent on InterQuest's London head office.

The company was also finding its existing provider was unable to respond to its needs in fast time frames and connectivity was often lost, hence affecting inbound and outbound business communication. InterQuest had reached a point where its old network service was not reliable or fast enough to keep up with the demands and growth of the business.

The Group started searching for a new solution which was able to provide improved service levels, increased speed and cost savings on routing voice calls internally. With a view to plan long-term, InterQuest also sought a scalable platform which could grow with its business requirements.

The service was very professional from provisioning to delivery and nothing we asked for was too much trouble.

Chris Dunham IT Manager, InterQuest Group.

Jellyfish Pictures

JellyFish-Pictures-unchains-artists-from-their-desks-thanks-to-the-Cloud-based-creative-power-of-NVIDIA-Grid

VFX studio Jellyfish Pictures unchains artists from their desks thanks to the Cloud-based creative power of NVIDIA GRID.

About Jellyfish Pictures

Jellyfish Pictures is an independent visual effects and animation studio with facilities in Noho and Brixton Village, London. Founded in 2001, the company is one of the most respected boutique facilities in London and has grown from strength to strength, gathering together some of the most talented individuals in the field to help create highly original, BAFTA-award winning work.

Solution

Jellyfish Pictures has partnered with Network and Cloud Provider Exponential-e to develop a new Cloud platform known as Desktop-as-a-Service for Graphic Processing Units (GPU) powered by NVIDIA GRID™ technology, which enables employees to work remotely without effecting quality, productivity or creativity. They can now utilise persistent virtualised desktops with all of their usual computing power, software applications and intensive creative tools. All their documents and files from their local storage are accessed directly from the virtual desktops giving seamless integration between Cloud resource and local network. Graphic artists and editors can work as if they were using a physical workstation, the new Cloud machines perform up to 3-4 times faster than normal desk-based computers performing like-for-like tasks as well as achieving 25-30 frames per second. This improves the productivity of graphic artists and enables the company to deliver faster turnaround to meet tight production deadlines.

Crucially, it also means that employees are no longer tied to a physical desk and have the ability to work from any device and any location, making the company highly flexible when bidding for future work. It has also supported other developments within the Jellyfish Group including the opening of their new purpose built, 4,000 square foot studio in Brixton, where 60 artists and supporting production staff are based. The new system means that work can be shared between studios, so that employees and contract/remote workers can collaborate on projects despite being based in separate offices.

Using Exponential-e's low latency, private Network powered by NVIDIA GRID™ technology gives the graphic artists access to all of the creative tools they need, from Nuke to Softimage, virtually, from any device anywhere in the world.

As they're essentially accessing a Data Centre, Jellyfish's creative team can harness the power of the platform for both application performance and rendering, but with asset management and storage taken care of too - so nothing would be lost if a computer or terminal crashed or failed.

"The nature of the VFX industry is project-based, and we often require technology resources and freelancers on demand. Exponential-e's solution enables us to respond quickly to these fluctuating project requirements" explains Jeremy Smith, CTO of Jellyfish.

"Scaling up and down for productions - where you might be operating remotely from several locations, such as on set, on location and in the studio, at speed with security and privacy center stage - is difficult to say the least. Operationally, we no longer need to rely solely on our existing architecture when further processing power or capacity is required. Instead, our staff can spin-up additional resources on demand."

Exponential-e's Cloud platform built on NVIDIA's GRID™ technology uses servers packed with high-performance GRID GPUs. VMWare's Horizon VDI platform provided the virtulisation, the low latency 100GigE Network between Jellyfish's two studios means that graphic artists using the virtualised desktops doesn't cause any problems with screen refreshes and rendering. With multi-million dollar production budgets in play the security of desktop virtualisation is of paramount importance. However, the hosted service that Jellyfish uses remains within its Local Area Network (LAN) and on the clean side of the firewall, meaning it doesn't transcend the public Internet. As a result, security and privacy concerns are negated.

This investment in Network resources was absolutely critical as the performance of all Cloud services are directly dependent on the speed of the network infrastructure, with which it connects to the Data Centre. When Jellyfish artists are working round the clock in different studios to a strict deadline, removing all potential loss of productivity from lag is vital.

 Challenges

Today, the firm behind the BBC's Inside the Human Body, Planet Dinosaur and commercials such as Peckish, sofaworks Sloth - Neal and the Natural History Museum Alive 3D, strives to remain at the forefront of technology and design by offering something extra, both in terms of creativity and approach.

Early in 2013 Jellyfish Pictures outgrew their Noho base in Margaret Street. Restrictions on power and space and with office space at a premium the challenge was to find a solution that would keep them in the heart of London's thriving VFX community without compromising on quality and client service.

Solution benefits

  • The virtualised desktop environment has changed the way Jellyfish works and competes in the industry - the company is now capable of moving from a capital expenditure business model to an operating expenditure structure. This reduces much of the upfront costs when Jellyfish expands to take on a big project assuring that they can align budgets with projects. For the first time, the company can be highly flexible and confident when bidding for new work.
  • Even more valuable, GRID™ technology has removed the chains between artist, studio and desktop.
  • Jeremy Smith explains, "In the past, the huge amounts of processing power needed for VFX work meant that our artists, designers and developers were tied to a physical desktop. But now, the traditional VFX workstation has been transformed - by adopting a hybrid, Cloud-based platform we can work from anywhere and on any supported device. Through our work with Exponential-e and NVIDIA, we are able to create a system that allows work to be shared in real time between our studios so that our employees and contract/remote workers can effectively collaborate on projects all on the same logical workspace.
  • Today, Jellyfish can foster a much more creative environment for its employees. Not only can they can easily share work in real-time between their two studios, work seamlessly from virtually any device and from any location, they're also able to hire the best creative, talent, regardless of whether or not they prefer to work remotely."

The nature of the VFX industry is project-based, and we often require technology resources and freelancers on demand. Exponential-e's solution enables us to respond quickly to these fluctuating project requirements. Operationally, we no longer need to rely solely on our existing architecture when further processing power or capacity is required. Instead, our staff can spin-up additional resources on demand.

Price Bailey

Price-Bailey-Enabling-a-25-x-increase-in-Network-speed-for-leading-accountancy-firm

Enabling a 25 x increase in Network speed for leading accountancy firm.

About Price Bailey

Founded in 1938, Price Bailey is a leading firm of chartered accountants and business advisers operating throughout the UK, with global connections. Their clients range from high net worth individuals to publicly listed businesses.

Price Bailey has 26 partners and over 300 professional and support staff. It has eight offices situated in East Anglia, London, the Channel Islands and the Caribbean - serving local SMEs.

Solution

A key requirement for Price Bailey was the need to review their existing WAN. Exponential-e took on the project of implementing a new WAN which enabled Price Bailey to benefit from improved connection speeds of up to 25 times faster than their previous Network. Plus, by utilising Exponential-e's Network they were able to increase the control over their bandwidth and access services privately and securely.

Their in-house Data Centre was no longer suitable and so Price Bailey agreed to move in to one of Exponential-e's Data Centres. Not only did this mean that they now receive a managed service which flags up any issues pro-actively and is within a state of the art secure facility, but it also provides enhanced disaster recovery facilities – enabling Price Bailey to have a comprehensive disaster recovery plan in place should they need to use it.

Their aging phone system, which had been in place over 20 years, was no longer fit for purpose and so the process of moving their existing telephone system on to a hosted system began. This process continued across the business's estate of offices and has enhanced communication functionality for employees. The new phone system also provided the firm with additional reporting metrics and enhanced security.

As their existing Citrix server farm could no longer handle the speed of growth and requirements for use, Price Bailey instead implemented a Desktop-as-a-Service solution. This allowed them to increase the number of seats that they could provide whilst lessening the strain on their existing legacy infrastructure. In future it will also allow them to increase provisioning of virtual desktops as required - meaning that they can easily match the growth of the firm, and adjust spend aligned to this.

Solution benefits

  • The ability to have a number of services managed by Exponential-e is a key benefit for Price Bailey. This enables their internal IT team to better focus on other projects, and also reduces the risk for them surrounding the management of an internal Data Centre.
  • With the implementation of the Cloud based solution – VDI - the firm is able to better manage their growing number of employees, whilst not adding further strain on their Network or server farm. Price Bailey was also able to leave behind its legacy phone system, which had been in place for over 20 years, instead providing their employees with a telephony system that offers additional functionality.

 Challenges

Price Bailey had an existing Wide Area Network (WAN) that had been in place since 2008 and, despite upgrades, it couldn't cope with the growth in their business – both in terms of staff and office locations. As the firm continued to grow they were faced with issues of slow speed and poor connectivity, which led to frustration for users and also a decrease in productivity.

Their IT services were primarily based in-house, but with their fast paced growth this was no longer the ideal solution. Instead Price Bailey decided that they needed to outsource some of this and instead rely on managed services that would be able to support their business growth.

In 2014 Price Bailey were looking to relocate one of their offices, and merge it with another, to create their largest site yet. This involved a great amount of work and was not something that could be managed internally.

As part of this move and merger Price Bailey needed to review their existing WAN, relocate their in-house Data Centre, review their Disaster Recovery plan, upgrade their telephone system (which had been in place since the 1990's) and review their struggling Citrix server farm.

Not only was there a requirement for all this to be done, but it had to happen within just 3 to 4 months, a timeframe that was too tight for the Price Bailey team to handle themselves - and why they instead looked to Exponential-e for assistance.

Features

  • Network is up to 25 times faster.
  • Managed Data Centre services replace an in-house Data Centre, enabling the IT department to do more whilst the company's key assets are protected.
  • Migration to the Exponential-e telephony system has allowed employees to embrace the benefits of more advanced features and functionality.
  • VDI has enhanced the opportunities for employees to work in remote locations, and also reduced the strain on their legacy systems.

Metropolitan Thames Valley

Metropolitan-Thames-Valley-upgrades-Network-resulting-in-increased-capacity-at-lower-costs

Metropolitan Thames Valley upgrades Network resulting in increased capacity at lower costs.

About Metropolitan Thames Valley

Metropolitan Thames Valley (MTV) is a registered social landlord, based in Twickenham, South West London. The organisation owns, manages or administers loans for over 14,500 properties in London, Berkshire, Surrey, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Wiltshire and Sussex. It provides affordable rented homes, shared ownership, market rent, student and key worker accommodation, working with eight NHS Trusts. Since its launch, MTV has maintained a successful record of growth and now has over 220 employees spread across its headquarters in Twickenham and seven site offices.

Solution

Exponential-e was selected to design and deploy a new fully converged nine site Network for MTV after being selected following a rigorous tender process. Deciding factors included proposed technology solution, level of technical expertise, housing association experience, company reputation, project management, quality of references, service level agreement and cost-effectiveness.

Exponential-e worked closely with MTV to design a flexible and cost-effective solution which would assist the move between MTV's existing headquarters and its temporary headquarters during the refurbishment, whilst providing a short-term solution to the organisation's traffic laden Internet circuit.

A nine site Wide Area Network (WAN) over Exponential-e's Layer 2 Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) Network was designed to connect the headquarters in Twickenham to three office sites and four remote sites. The robust WAN solution will ensure that MTV's services run smoothly during this period of transition and can cope with increasing capacity demand.

MTV also needed a Network versatile enough to support a range of large applications such as VoIP, Civica's Universal Housing system and Citrix's remote access suite, as well as being able to absorb any extra Network traffic generated.

The organisation's new protocol-agnostic next generation Network designed by Exponential-e, easily accommodates for any additional large applications or changes in Network bandwidth demand.

Solution benefits

  • MTV now has a state-of-the-art network covering a much wider area and with increased capacity. With connections across all nine sites and improved overall connectivity, employees are able to be more efficient and MTV can now provide a higher level of customer service to tenants. The new Network is resilient and makes connecting to remote sites and making configurations simpler.
  • Improved Network capacity and resilience.
  • Network topology designed to provide seamless connectivity between nine sites.
  • Room to scale for short-term and long-term Network requirements.
  • Increased capacity and reach at lower cost.

Universal Credit has been referred to as the biggest change to the welfare system of our generation; and its implementation is set to have a huge impact on housing associations. The shift from a range of social benefits to Universal Credit means that housing associations will inevitably communicate with tenants more frequently and attentively; and manage an increasing number of rent payments directly. Download and read our whitepaper: Using technology to improve housing services in the age of austerity.

 Challenges

With a number of years of continuous growth, TVH's existing Network had reached capacity and was unable to support the organisation's requirements. It faced limited amounts of bandwidth at crucial points on its Network, hampering its ability to operate efficiently and provide good customer service.

TVH's ICT Infrastructure Manager, Gerard Brown explained: "We had reached a point where we had to restrict traffic during various times of the day. But this still wasn't enough with all our remote offices coming in on one connection with very limited bandwidth."

After the organisation decided to relocate its headquarters temporarily for a year in order to undergo refurbishment, TVH quickly realised how restricted it was by the inflexible nature of legacy technology on which its current Network was based.

As a result, TVH decided to seek other options and sent out a tender for a new Network. Its new Network needed to support a wide range of large applications, be cost-effective and provide a high level of flexibility to cater for the temporary relocation of its headquarters.

Brown elaborated: "Our current Network wasn't up to the job or flexible enough to allow us to move with it. Extending it would have been very expensive as we would have had to add a lot of extra components. Exponential-e has taken VPLS technology that bit further, making our whole Network feel like one big Network, even with our remote office sites - effectively making our remote sites appear as if they are part of the same building. Exponential-e was able to provide the glowing reference and the technical expertise we needed to manage the relocation of our headquarters - making our choice simple."

By changing Network supplier, even though we had to break out of the existing contract early and pay a penalty fee, it still worked out more cost-effective to implement the new Network with Exponential-e. In addition, we can now run multiple services across our Network, which allows shared services between departments - making our assets go even further.

The Barbican Centre

The-Barbican-Centre-A-Connectivity-solution-suitable-for-corporate-guests

A connectivity solution suitable for corporate guests.

About The Barbican Centre

The Barbican Centre (The Barbican) is one of the world's leading arts centres, founded and run by the City of London Corporation. It encompasses dance, film, music, theatre, visual arts and creative learning who work together in creating the model of tomorrow's international arts and learning centre.

The architecturally renowned Centre, now Grade II listed, opened in 1982 and comprises the 1,949 seat Barbican Hall, the 1,166-seat Barbican Theatre, the Pit theatre, a 286 seat cinema, the Barbican Art Gallery, a second gallery The Curve, foyers and public spaces, a library, Lakeside Terrace, roof-top tropical conservatory, conference facilities and three restaurants.

Solution

After comparing a number of solution providers rigorously, Exponential-e was chosen to deploy a 100Mbps fibre Internet connection. The deciding factors were Exponential-e's professional and responsive approach in designing a solution, its expertise in fibre-based network solutions and experience in the Leisure and Hospitality sector.

Exponential-e provided The Barbican with a significant increase in bandwidth. The additional bandwidth immediately addressed usability issues experienced by Internet users. The extra capacity also provided The Barbican with the scalability needed to create a dedicated WiFi zone for visitors.

The Internet connection provided by Exponential-e enabled The Barbican to deliver multiple services over one connection by splitting VLANs. This meant The Barbican could set and change the bandwidth dedicated to specific services with a few simple keystrokes. This additional flexibility meant that key services such as WiFi or booking services no longer compete for bandwidth. The simplicity in making changes to this service also means that The Barbican is able to provide corporate clients with their own dedicated Internet access to support their events.

Solution benefits

  • Today, The Barbican has state-of-the-art fibre Internet connectivity - matching the world-class concert and meetings facilities. The additional bandwidth has improved the day-to-day performance of Internet based services such as WiFi and ticketing applications. The capability to split multiple services across one connection has given The Barbican the flexibility to not only guarantee the bandwidth provided by business-critical applications, but also to offer dedicated Internet services to clients interested in using The Barbican facilities. The failover connection provides venue with additional resiliency and minimises the risk of network outages.
  • Upgraded from a 2Mbps copper-based Internet services to a 100Mbps fibre-based Internet line.
  • Extra resilience mitigating the risk of network downtime.
  • Increased scalability and flexibility.
  • Ability to offer dedicated bandwidth to third parties.

 Challenges

The Barbican was looking to maintain its position as a world-class venue in a very competitive marketplace. In order to broaden its appeal to corporate clients, The Barbican implemented a £14.1m refurbishment of its conference facilities.

In line with these improvements, The Barbican decided to upgrade its existing 2Mbps copper-based Internet connection, which was being used to capacity. This was having an adverse effect on the speed of web-based services. Applications such as ticketing systems, internal e-mail and WiFi services slowed down as they competed for bandwidth. The Barbican's existing 2Mbps connection also meant there was limited bandwidth capacity to support the growing demand for Internet access at corporate events, conferences and seminars held at The Barbican.

The Barbican decided to upgrade from its copper-based Internet service to a 100Mbps fibre-based Internet connection. A robust failover option would also be installed to provide additional resiliency for Internet services. The additional bandwidth would allow The Barbican to address the immediate issue of slow speeds suffered by Internet users, provide Internet access to corporate clients in keeping with The Barbican's world-class reputation and improve the resiliency of Internet services.

In addition, the project team faced the challenge of adopting a new set of IP addresses. A knock-on effect of this would be the need to re-configure firewalls and make network address translation (NAT) changes. The project team would have to undertake an overnight migration to minimise disruption to visitor services during business hours.

Exponential-e impressed us with its professionalism and know-how in designing a solution to meet our needs. The solution was more cost-effective than the alternatives and was delivered by an expert project team.

The Careys Group

The-careys-Group-Data-and-email-system-moved-entirely-to-a-private-Cloud-and-Office-365-based-solution-with-0-distruption-to-the-business

Data and email system moved entirely to a private Cloud and Office 365 based solution with 0% disruption to the business.

About The Careys Group

The Carey Group, established in 1969, is a leading multidisciplined construction and resource recovery group, operating across the UK and Ireland. Careys deliver innovative, safe and sustainable solutions to the most complex challenges.

They are unique within the construction industry as they have in-house specialist capabilities in asbestos, demolition, civil engineering, dry lining, house building and resource recovery. Their combined service capabilities means they can deliver consolidated programmes with reduced project costs, consistency and effective management of construction risks.

Solution

To fulfil The Carey Group's primary IT requirements Exponential-e was tasked to move their data across to a platform that used a combination of our private, secure Cloud platform and Microsoft Office 365. We were able complete the project in just 3 months whilst ensuring zero downtime during the transition period.

Our team of Professional services managers successfully completed the transition from start to finish, ensuring that everything went smoothly and impressing the Carey Group with their high levels of support and competence.

The fact that Exponential-e already supplied their 100GigE low latency WAN solution to Careys meant that they had the confidence in us to design and implement a robust technical solution that was aligned to their IT strategies.

Our solution was underpinned by our resilient Network - ensuring that Carey's had the best base from which to launch their Cloud and email platform.

By using an outsourced model managed by Exponential-e, Carey's made cost efficiencies as they eliminated the time internal IT staff traditionally spent managing their email systems.

The change from a capital expenditure to operating expenditure model has allowed Carey's to directly apportion a predictable monthly cost to the service.

Equally with the scalability of the solution, the cost of operations has decreased and the overall system is far more cost effective.

  • One of the primary benefits of the implementation of this solution is that it is cost effective and fits with the company's OPEX model.
  • The company has seen a reduction in the time their IT department needs to spend in managing their email system. Through the combination of our ongoing support and the use of Office 365, their email system will be fully managed and any patches or updates applied.
  • Inbox storage capacity increased across the company.
  • By using Exponential-e the movement of user data and the implementation of the new system were completed without any disruption to the business and took only 3 months to implement. This allowed the business to quickly move from one solution to another, without having to face any system downtime.
  • The storage capacity of their email system was increased through use of this new solution, which was a benefit for all employees within the company.

Solution benefits

  • Implementation of Office 365 and a secure, private Cloud solution throughout the company.
  • Scalable solution that is fully managed externally, allowing the IT department to focus their efforts elsewhere.
  • Inbox storage capacity increased across the company.
  • Integration with SharePoint and further Microsoft products now a possibility.
  • The CAPEX / OPEX benefits of a Cloud solution make operations cheaper.
  • 0% downtime for the business during implementation allowed Carey's to continue operating without disruption.
Construction is a $10tn industry that currently spends less than 1% of its revenue on IT. Historically, R&D investment has been particularly low in the industry, but with AEC firms seeing how digitalisation is changing the way other industries operate, it's time for technological investment to take the lead.

A technology-first approach enables firms to get past unique industry challenges and deliver high-quality work on time and to budget. So, what do we do about getting there? Download our Construction brochure to find out.

 Challenges

Faced with ageing internal email infrastructure that they were unable to fully manage and support, the Carey Group looked to find a solution that would allow them to move their data to a private Cloud platform whilst also utilising Microsoft Office 365. By outsourcing this service to Exponential-e they were able to ensure that they had a secure and resilient solution that was scalable and fully met their business needs.

The Carey Group's primary challenge was how to move their email data for their 1000+ users across to the new platform whilst ensuring the implementation was completed swiftly and smoothly to avoid business disruption, yet maintaining data integrity.

With their existing WAN provided by Exponential-e they looked to us to provide the professional services to make both a successful data transition and also ensure ongoing support for the day to-day management of the solution.

Exponential-e offered us a complete WAN solution that was technically superior to anything else we looked at, backed up by plain speaking people who have made the transition from a complicated in-house solution far easier than we ever envisaged.

Vita Group

Vita-Group-work-collaboratively-across-the-globe-with-secure-and-reliable-Connectivity-and-Cloud-services

Migrating to Exponential-e's WAN, allows Vita Group to work collaboratively across the globe, with secure and reliable Connectivity and Cloud services supplied by Exponential-e.

About Vita Group

Formed over 60 years ago, the Vita Group operates internationally, supplying a vast range of foams for applications ranging from transportation, general industry, construction, furniture and bedding to packaging.

With 36 sites in 14 countries, they work with their customers to create innovative, quality products. Their aim is simple - to be the best in the markets in which they operate.

Solution

With a new and improved WAN being a key requirement for the Vita Group, this was one of the first things that they looked to tackle with Exponential-e. Migrating to a WAN on the Exponential-e Network enabled them to access a wider range of services, and is supported by 24 / 7 x 365 proactive customer support - therefore meeting all the requirements that the Vita Group had for their migration.

Not only did this move assist in enabling the business to transform the way in which it worked, but it also provided it with the flexibility to grow its business and transform its IT - both now and in the future. Moving to an Opex model also meant that the Vita Group could look to spend money that was previously tied up in hardware on manufacturing equipment instead - something that was key for the businesses' success.

Of course, a major change for the Vita Group was a transition to the Cloud. With a strong desire to move to virtualised services the company was prepared for the change, and working with a provider such as Exponential-e who are an expert in Cloud Services further provided them with the support and trust required to make the leap.

With an initial time frame of making the move to Cloud within two months, after just two weeks it became clear that this could be done much quicker and so the changes were made faster than expected. This gave the Vita Group more time to adjust and settle in to the new systems.

 Challenges

With 36 sites across 14 countries a key for the Vita Group was that they were able to work collaboratively across the globe, with secure and reliable Connectivity – something their existing supplier was unable to offer them. They wanted to move to a new WAN which gave them the functionality and collaboration that they required.

Particularly with such a number of sites, the company found that they were simply spending too much time in-house managing suppliers and processes. Being able to offload this to an external body would mean that their IT department could instead focus their efforts on key business requirements, rather than the day to day running of the business.

With several different hardware platforms and vendors, and a distinct lack of proactive support, the Vita Group wanted to streamline processes and so began to look for a supplier that could meet all their requirements whilst providing a single SLA underpinned with proactive customer support.

An interest and desire to move to the Cloud meant that the Vita Group required a supplier that could provide all of these things, plus the ability to transition to virtualised services.

This search led them to discover Exponential-e.

Solution benefits

  • Naturally, the Vita Group were looking for a service provider that could meet their requirements in terms of WAN, Cloud and customer support. But alongside this, they were also looking for a partner that they could trust and work alongside for the foreseeable future.
  • The Vita Group wanted a partner that understood Cloud and could deliver a reliable Network and service model. Exponential-e were the perfect fit for all of these requirements and further proved this by delivering services over a month ahead of schedule.
