IPv4 & IPv6
The birth of two Internets
Globally we consume around 200 million IP addresses each year and we are about to run out. IPv6 will take over from IPv4 as the new addressing system and provide a significant increase in the available address space.
Having plenty of IPv4 addresses doesn't protect a business from other organisations running out of IPv4 elsewhere on the Internet. When IPv4 runs out, businesses can no longer make the assumption that the entire Internet will be reachable or that they themselves will be universally reachable. Everyone must take steps to prepare their network for "both Internets".
We have adopted a dual-stack approach which means our services are both IPv4 and IPv6 compliant. Exponential-e has been awarded 4 stars of IPv6 readiness by RIPE NCC (the European Regional Internet Registry). This puts us amongst the in the minority of IPv6 ready providers. Exponential-e also participated in the first global-scale test flight of IPv6 as part of World IPv6 Day.
Exponential-e's Layer 2 connectivity services have been ready for IPv6 since day one. Our IP network is running native IPv6 right now, with our routers fully capable of delivering IPv6 packets at line rate, exactly the same as IPv4 packets. Exponential-e's IPv6 transit and peering connections are fully operational and our business Internet services are IPv4 and IPv6 compliant as standard. We are committed to supporting our customers in understanding and deploying IPv6. We will help you establish the hardware and software dependencies, plan and execute your deployment and help you develop the skills needed within your business.
