IPv4 & IPv6: the birth of two Internets
Globally we consume around 200 million IP addresses each year and we are about to run out. IPv6 will take over from IPv4 as the new addressing system and provide a significant increase in the available address space.
Having plenty of IPv4 addresses doesn't protect a business from other organisations running out of IPv4 elsewhere on the Internet. When IPv4 runs out, businesses can no longer make the assumption that the entire Internet will be reachable or that they themselves will be universally reachable. Everyone must take steps to prepare their network for "both Internets".
