Using a VPLS WAN for multi-site connectivity not only improves existing business capabilities, but also future-proofs all communications requirements from the outset. This is because VPLS uses Ethernet as a transport mechanism over our Next-Generation Network, and being protocol agnostic allows you to converge all services and applications without any interoperability issues.
With one connection per site to deliver multiple services, VPLS allows you to ensure the performance of business critical applications and services with end-to-end QoS, and change priorities as and when required.
Supported with intelligent distribution of bandwidth and five different service classes, all applications and services are provided at the customer premises on separate ports – even though they are converged on to one connection in to each building. This is made possible through the Ethernet Demarcation Devices (EDDs) we use at the end of each connection.
Geographically dispersed sites share a single broadcast domain, and therefore behave as though on the same LAN. This further simplifies the administration of the WAN - which you can offer as a managed service, or pass directly on to the customer.
What’s more, with clear separation of services and the use of pure Ethernet, VPLS opens the door to all the virtualised business-critical services you could ever wish to deliver.
